It happened around 1:35 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 28 in Dix Hills.

Koray Kurulgan, age 30, was operating a 2005 MINI Cooper eastbound on the expressway, near Exit 52, when the vehicle crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer that was parked on the right shoulder, Suffolk County Police said.

Kurulgan, of Staten Island, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip in critical condition, police said.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 43-year-old man from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was not injured, according to police.

The Cooper was impounded for a safety check and the tractor-trailer was inspected at the scene by Motor Carrier Safety Section officers.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
